About Us
Suffolk Online began as a government funded pilot project in November 2001 to bridge
the divide between those who have Internet access and those that don't in
the Framlingham area of Suffolk.
This was acheived by providing approximately 1500 computers with Internet
connections to households that met a selection criteria. Priority was
given to the socially excluded. Nearly 60% of the subscribers who signed up to our Internet services when they received their free computer are still with the service 7 years later, which is a testiment to the quality of service and support we offer to our customers.
The low-cost Internet services provided to the project members has now
been extended to anyone who wishes to signup to a low-cost, high quality
friendly ISP that is powered by The Phone Coop, rated 2nd in a survey by Which? magazine in 2006 for customer satisfaction amongst Internet Service Providers.
You don't even have to be from Suffolk to enjoy our high quality
Internet services!
Since the provision of new computers has finished, Suffolk Online has been active in getting broadband into areas that otherwise wouldn't have had it. A pilot Wireless Broadband scheme was started in Badingham, Suffolk in July 2003 and this was extended to a further 5 villages (Stradbroke, Laxfield, Wilby, Dennington and Laxfield). Whilst it closed down in December 2005 the scheme has proved to be an invaluable high speed internet stop-gap whilst we awaited BT to enable the majority of the local exchanges.
As of July 2004 Suffolk Online was a reseller of the highly successful Nildram's Broadband services, and since 2008 has linked up with The Phone Coop to provide more ethically based and environmentally friendly Internet services, whilst still maintaining the high levels of quality Suffolk Online customers have been used to over the past 7 years.
